DENIS COUGHLAN LIVED AND PLAYED through a golden era in the GAA. And he did so brilliantly on both hurling and football fields for close on two decades. Nobody achieved more in both codes than Cork’s own Denis Coughlan, who wore the famous red with distinction for 15 years. On the field he played with and against the best, and he also enjoyed close friendships with two of the greatest GAA men of all time, Christy Ring and Jack Lynch - all three of them Glen Rovers’ heroes. With The Glen and St Nick's Denis Coughlan won it all, many times over. At club level he won seven county, four provincial and two All-Ireland titles. And for Cork he played a central role in 10 Munster titles and five All-Irelands triumphs - four in hurling, one in football. Four times Coughlan was also adjudged the best of the best, winning his place on All Star hurling teams. He was Hurler of the Year in 1977.
