This book explains clearly the concept of Total Productive Maintenance. TPM as it is better known has been employed in Japan for over 20 years as a tool for transforming the performance of companies. The western world is now recognising the potential benefits of TPM. Many people are wary of trying to introduce an eastern concept to a western organisiation believing that it just will not work outside Japan.

In 1989 NEC Semiconductors Ireland Limited (NECSI) began to introduce TPM to its operations in County Meath. Seven years later in 1996 NECSI became the first company in Ireland to be awarded the coveted Award for TPM Excellence from The Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance.
