David Meyler was made for Hull City FC.
And the Tigers became his natural ‘home’ after an horrific knee injury threatened to end his career as he was settling into the Sunderland first team.
Meyler also had a second ‘father figure’ in Sunderland and Hull manager, the former Manchester United hero, Steve Bruce.
David Meyler played over 150 times for Hull, energizing the team with his combative midfield style. Twice, he led Hull to win promotion to the Premier League, and he starred for the Tigers in their 2014 FA Cup run which culminated with a blistering final against Arsenal.
Further injury plagued his career, however, and after short spells at Reading and Coventry, he retired too early from the game.
David Meyler represented the Republic of Ireland 26 times, and also proudly captained his country.
